Defining Special Needs.

I like to define persons with special needs much more broadly than the mainstream typically has done.  Not only do we specialize in the care of the physically and developmentally challenged but also those with acquired conditions and learned behaviors making dental care impossible in the conventional fashion.  This may include inability to access dental care to:

Congenital Syndromes

Results of Trauma and Disease

Sexual and Domestic Abuses

Previous Negative Dental Treatment Experiences

Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

Phobic/Anxieties

Gagging Disorder

Extremes of Age (very young and elderly)

Extensive/Invasive Treatment
